What sets your agency apart?
We have a dynamic team of court reporters, videographers, transcriptionists and dedicated office staff. Our clients have given the Buell team word-of-mouth referrals over the past 19 years, and we have grown from two reporters to a sizable team with very little marketing.
What advice would you give students or those just entering the field of court reporting on how to align themselves with an agency?
When starting out as a new reporter or in a new location, we tell reporters to first work overflow for a few agencies to see where you feel you have the best fit.
Since your agency first opened, what do you feel has changed the most in the industry?
The technology has advanced significantly!
Where is the strangest place your agency has been asked to take a deposition?
An Alaskan fish processing vessel.
What is the funniest thing that has happened during a deposition or in the courtroom?
A few years ago, one of our reporters covered a deposition in a very contentious case. As the day went on, things became heated between counsel, escalating to the point of their standing up, leaning over the conference room table, and screaming at each other. It appeared to be coming close to a physical altercation.
Because the two attorneys were yelling over each other, our court reporter was finally forced to interrupt and let them know that she wasn’t able to take them both down at the same time. One of the lawyers looked at her and said, “That’s okay. Only write what I’m saying.”
