It’s everyone’s favorite time of year; Thanksgiving! It’s the time of year where we reflect on what we are thankful for and show appreciation for what is good in our lives. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we at LiveDeposition want to say “thank you” to technology. Although some may say technology has complicated our lives, it is capable of some pretty amazing things. Without Technology, how would we talk with friends and family across the country, watch TV or drive a car? Technology is so submersed in our culture that sometimes we even forget it’s there, especially in the legal industry. Here are some reasons you should be thankful for technology as a legal professional.
It keeps you organized: With schedules constantly in a flux, staying organized is very important. Forget those slips of paper, those briefcases crammed with notes and daily planners. With tablets and smart phones, you can send your daily schedules to one place to make sure you have the most current date and time for all your meetings and depositions.
It helps maintain relationships: Whether you are a court reporter or attorney, maintaining relationships with those you work with is crucial. You can keep in touch with clients via a quick text message, or brief phone call from your tablet or smartphone, no matter where you are or what you’re doing.
It saves time: Attorneys can virtually attend meetings and legal proceedings without leaving the comfort of their home or office. This saves them time on traveling and commuting while increasing their billable hours and leaving more time to attend to other business matters. Also, court reporters can now virtually send transcripts and rough drafts following a deposition, saving them time on producing a hard copy of the transcript.
It puts data at your fingertips: As a legal professional, it is common you will need to research something and get an answer quickly. With tools such as Google and Yahoo, you can now look up pretty much anything without having to look through encyclopedias or other research materials. With tablets and smart phones, getting an answer is as easy as well!
Yes, you may want to throw your phone or laptop against a wall on occasion, but before you do, please take a moment and remember all that technology has, can, and will help you with. Be thankful for technology and the advancements it’s made in society.
