Beyond the Record with Lori Sizemore-Warren

LiveLitigation Certified Reporter Spotlight

Name:  Lori Sizemore-Warren, CCR, RPR

Title:  Principal, Alabama Court Reporting, Inc. CCR, RPR

Certifications:  RPR, CCR

What is your background?  After high school, I went to work for the Dept. of Veteran’s Affairs. It was there that I had time to discover what I wanted to be “when I grow up.” I started with night classes while there, then transferred to days. I have never looked back nor been let down with my profession. Best. Profession. Ever.

When did you begin your court reporting career?  1993

What sparked your interest in choosing court reporting as a profession?
I was interested initially in a profession that would allow me to work from home so I could be with my future children. My mom worked a job that allowed her to pick me up from school every day, but she was also the “professional mom.” She had the best of both worlds and I wanted that too.

What advice would you give to students or those just entering the field of court reporting?
Practice! Practice! Practice! Nothing good comes easy. There is a reason why there are so few of us!

What is your favorite thing about being a court reporter?
The honor that comes with being the “Guardian of the Record.” I enjoy helping people and interacting with new people every day. I have gotten a free education for the past 23 years! There is no other way I would have been able to meet the people I have met or learned the things I have learned if it wasn’t for being a court reporter.

As a Court Reporter, what is your worst nightmare or biggest pet peeve?
Worst nightmare: Computer crash/machine crash.

Biggest Pet Peeve: Attorneys who try to mark their own exhibits and do it out of order!

Where is the strangest place you have taken a deposition?
In the front yard of an elderly gentleman. It was freezing outside and I was sitting in a lawn chair!

What is the funniest thing you have heard during a deposition or in the courtroom?
When the attorney asked the witness: “Who is your family doctor?” And the witness replied: “We don’t have any doctors in our family.”

When not court reporting, how do you spend your free time?
With my family. We love the outdoors and going fishing. We also love traveling.

What do you like most about LiveLitigation?
Gosh, on what day? I love the expression on clients’ faces when they see what it will do. On a personal level, I enjoy how user friendly it is.

Anything else you would like to share?
LiveLitigation has the BEST IT PEOPLE EVER. They are the friendliest and most patient IT people I have ever met. I currently have 6 reporters who use the local product and I have told all of them when they were getting ready to set up their system, “You will love their IT people. They are awesome!”
